Although some of his editing — and Eisenstein was his own editor, and an absolute master of it — was a bit obviously propagandistic, the overall effect is, to repeat, powerful. Though I completely and totally oppose all forms of collectivism and coercion, I sit in open-mouthed awe at the magnificence of “Battleship Potemkin.” And I highly recommend it to everyone, especially students of film history….
