Summary: Martha Ivers plans to run away from her mean aunt with a poor boy named Sam Masterson. Martha kills her rich aunt by accident and blames an intruder for the murder. Walter O'Neil witnessed the murder and decided to lie to the police that Martha is not the murderer in order to have control over her. Sam, on the other hand, leaves without Marta and breaks her heart.
