Excellent movie. Keep them coming!!!
although les miserables is in English, it keeps freezing……
I first saw the 1998 version of Les Misérables, but this 1935 version is the classic – The heart of this story applies in every way I csn think of – “Life is to Give, not to Take” –
this is a great film, a great movie , a masterpiece. While not 100% faithful to the novel by Hugo, it respects most of the text. March and Laughton are exceptionals. There have been a lot of ‘Les Miserables’ movies , some great, some bad, some average. I remember the one I saw when I was a kid with French actor lino Ventura as Valjean ( 1982 , directed by robert hossein… ) it was with that one the best and greatest adaptations of the novel by Hugo, according to me.
some recent movies like that ridiculous 1998 movie are just too bad… nothing to do with that one!!
There is something beautiful here. Something almost hidden, yet emerges from the dark happenings, and makes the heart soft and tender. Love, how joyous.
At last found someone that remembers the lino Ventura – the best!
Beets the modern version hands down.
Victor hugo’smessage in this fine movie is to give.and that is what he himself did.to all who watched and felt the power of the human heart.and to do so without reward.if only we all can not just temporarily feel it but prolong it throughout our own lives.thank-you for the movie and the thoughts it has created
a truly wonderful movie and superb acting
this movie is OK, THANK YOU.
GREAT !
Thank you for providing such great cenima…I have really enjoyed this movie..and I will conclude by saying that I will revisit soon..thank you again..
Bought this for Charles Laughton. There is a clip from I,Claudius, the unfinished film that no doubt would have made Laughton the star he deserved to be, on You Tube. A remarkable 5 or 6 minutes. His role in Les Miserables is very good, but not his best. Watch The Hunchback of Notre Dame. He is almost unrecognizable. A great performance.
Finally watched this, after hearing about it for over 65 years… Special effects, beyond the pale of mere words – and which current technology can only dream of…
